BMW is one of the two default premium badges in the UAE, and the balance has tipped towards the X cars: the X5 is the family default, while the saloons serve buyers who still want to drive. There are 141 BMWs on our site, and the range has since grown an electric wing in the iX and i4.

How much does a used BMW cost in the UAE?

The model moves the price more than the badge does. On the same year, a 2018 X5 went for AED 64,000, an X6 for AED 53,000 and a 520 for AED 48,000. Two years newer, a 2020 X5 sold at AED 154,000 against AED 70,000 for a 2020 520 — the X5 changed generation in 2019 and the newer shape commands it. Live asking prices on our UAE listings run between AED 11000 for an early-2010s car and AED 475000 for a current-year one.

Are used BMWs reliable?

Better than the badge's running-cost reputation implies, on every measure we track. Across more than 4,000 BMWs we have inspected in the UAE, 13% carried a mechanical fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 17% we would expect for cars of the same age and mileage in the Emirates, and 8% showed an electrical fault against 12% expected for comparable cars. Bodywork agrees: 52% had evidence of previous panel repair where 60% is the expectation for cars of this age here. Panel history is normal in this market, so judge the standard of the work, not its presence.

Do BMWs hold their value?

Average for the premium segment: taken across the model curves we can measure, BMWs average about 46% of their value after five years in the UAE.

Which used BMW should you buy?

The X5 suits most buyers, widest choice and most usable. The X3 does the same job in a city-sized footprint. The 530 is for the drive rather than the ride height, and the X1 is the cheapest recent way into the badge.

BMW or Mercedes?

Mercedes is the softer, plusher choice with a slight edge on badge value here. BMW's case is chassis feel, plus cars that arrive in better mechanical order than the class average.

What to check on a used BMW

Cooling system history, the item heat punishes hardest on these engines.
Run-flat tyres, matched and within date, plus the wheels for kerb damage.
Panel repair quality rather than its presence, using the report's bodywork pages.
Full service record at an agent or a known specialist.
