Nothing structural — what our inspections turn up on this car is wear. 19% of the Mercedes C200s we inspect in the UAE have a mismatched or damaged set of tyres, against the 13% we would expect for saloons of the same age and mileage here, and 38% show interior staining where 31% is the expectation for that same class. Both are heat-and-sun items on a car that lives in traffic, and both are cheap to put right — negotiating points rather than reasons to walk.

2019 to 2021 is the value window. The W205 C-Class ran from 2015 to 2021 and was heavily facelifted for 2019: new cabin screens, and the 2.0-litre turbo picked up a mild-hybrid starter-generator that smooths the stop-start. The W206 took over for 2022 with a bigger portrait screen and asks a lot more money. Either side of that line, dealer stamps are what separate two cars of the same year.

The BMW 320 is the driver's car at similar money and its bodywork reads cleaner: 47% carry prior body or panel repair against the 61% we would expect for saloons of the same age and mileage in the UAE. The BMW 520 costs more but is the safer mechanical bet, with faults on 8% against 17% expected for the same class. The Mercedes C300 is this car with the stronger tune.
