2020 changed the car completely. The fourth-generation Escape arrived that year on a new platform, lighter, roomier and far quieter; the 2013 to 2019 car is the older Kuga-based model. If the budget stretches, 2020 to 2021 is the sweet spot. Below that, buy the newest of the previous shape with a full stamped book.

Better than its class does — about 49% after five years, against roughly 40% for compact SUVs of similar age and mileage, and 44% across our Ford listings. The Honda CR-V matches it at 49% while costing considerably more to buy.
