The current Durango arrived for 2011 as a unibody SUV sharing its bones with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, then took a substantial facelift for 2014 that brought the eight-speed automatic and a much better interior; from 2018 the equipment levels and infotainment caught up properly. Earlier cars are cheap but feel it.

Less wear than the class average, inside and underneath. 26% of the Dodge Durangos we inspect in the UAE show interior staining, against the 39% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage here, and mechanical faults in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering run at 15% against an expected 24%. Family SUVs take a beating in this market — the Ford Explorer shows staining at 47% against an expectation of 39% — so a Durango that has been looked after is a genuinely strong used buy.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the same platform with two rows instead of three and holds about 39% — take it if you never use the back seats. The Toyota Prado costs more and returns about 63%, which over five years makes it the cheaper car despite the higher entry price. The Durango's case is space and pace for the money.
