What to inspect on a used Mercedes C63 AMG

  • Which generation and engine you are actually buying — naturally aspirated V8, twin-turbo V8, or the newer four-cylinder hybrid.
  • Full AMG-specific service history, including transmission fluid changes.
  • Tyre wear and matching brands, the clearest sign of hard driving.

Decide on the engine first. The W204-generation car, built through 2014, uses a naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 with a raw, high-revving character. The W205 that followed switched to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 through 2021 — more power, less drama at low revs. The newest W206 dropped the V8 entirely for a turbo-four hybrid, a very different car that split opinion badly enough that buyers specifically chasing the V8 sound should stick to a W204 or W205.

Reasonably well, though a step behind the segment — it retains about 42% of its value after five years against the roughly 45% we would expect for performance saloons of the same age in the Emirates, and against a wider Mercedes range average of 44%.
