Frequently asked questions

Porsche has rebodied the Cayenne three times since 2002, and the GTS engine changed with it — a naturally aspirated V8 in the earlier cars, a twin-turbo six from around 2016. Match the engine to the logbook before assuming two GTS cars of similar age are directly comparable.

The Cayenne S below it is the cheaper, softer-riding version if outright cornering ability is not the point. Against outside rivals, the Toyota Land Cruiser shows less prior body or panel repair than expected, at 35% against 45% for full-size SUVs of similar age. The BMW X5 follows the same pattern at 44% against the 65% expected for SUVs of that age. The Audi Q7 is worth a harder look before buying, since it reports mechanical faults at 35% against the 24% expected for SUVs of this age.

The cars we inspect here run a median of around 175,000 km, on the high side for a performance SUV but not unusual for a Cayenne that has stuck to its service schedule.
