Comfortably past 100,000 km with normal dealer servicing. The cars we inspect in the UAE run to a median of around 116,000 km with no pattern of hybrid-system or mechanical failure, which matches the ES300h's reputation as one of the more relaxed hybrids to own.

  • Hybrid battery health — ask for a state-of-health reading rather than trusting the dashboard alone.
  • Full Lexus dealer service history, which matters more on a hybrid than the mileage does.
  • Tyre wear pattern, since these cars are usually driven gently but can sit for long periods.
  • Infotainment generation — a touchscreen means 2019 or later, a trackpad means older.

Read the CarSwitch inspection report before you commit — on a hybrid, the drivetrain check matters more than the paint.

2019 onward, if you have the choice. Lexus stretched the wheelbase and sharpened the styling for the redesigned ES that year, and swapped the widely disliked trackpad-only infotainment for a conventional touchscreen — a real usability difference, not just a styling refresh.

The Mercedes C300 costs a good deal less to buy but doesn't carry the same low running costs. The BMW 530 is cheaper and our inspections find fewer body or panel repairs on it than the class average, so it's worth a look if you don't need the hybrid drivetrain. Within the Lexus range, the ES350 is the cheaper petrol-only version of the same car.
