Our UAE J7 listings run from AED 20,500 to AED 36,000, which is where a much older and much smaller Japanese sedan would sit.

The body history is where these cars need scrutiny. Prior body or panel repair shows on 73% of the JAC J7s we inspect in the UAE, against the 46% we would expect for sedans of the same age and mileage here — but this is the budget-sedan story rather than a JAC one: the Nissan Sentra runs at 87% against the 72% expected for its class. Tyres are the second item, mismatched or damaged on 23% against the 9% expected for the same class.

The Toyota Corolla costs more, retains 58% after five years and is the right answer if you will sell within a few years — its body record is actually worse, at 82% against the 66% expected for its class, but the network behind it is not comparable. The JAC JS4 is the crossover version of the same idea. The J7's case is metal and equipment per dirham.

The newest one you can find. The J7 arrived at the start of the decade with the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and has not been redesigned since, so there is no generation split to navigate — later cars simply have fewer kilometres and more warranty left. Look for the higher trim with the larger screen and the reversing camera; the used price gap between trims is small.

Weakly — about 40% of its value after five years, against roughly 51% for sedans in its class. That is the cost of a newer brand, and it is why the used car is such good value: the first owner absorbed it.
