The Macan has run on one platform since 2014, with a substantial update at the end of the 2010s that brought a new cabin, bigger screen and revised suspension, and a further refresh since. A post-update car is the one to aim for; on anything earlier the service record decides it, not the year.

This is the weak point. A UAE Macan keeps about 40% of its value after five years, against roughly 44% for compact SUVs of the same age and mileage here and 56% across Porsche as a whole. That is an argument for buying used rather than new, and for shaping your offer around it.

Cabins survive well: interior staining shows on 12% of the Macans we inspect in the UAE, against the 28% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage here. What needs checking is mechanical and expensive — the Audi Q7, on related engineering, turns up a fault on 35% of cars against a 24% norm. On a Macan that means the PDK gearbox under load, the coolant pipework, and air suspension through its full height range.

The BMW X5 is similar money for a much bigger car and shows body repair on 44% of cars against a 65% norm. The Porsche Cayenne is the larger Porsche, at 46% on a 62% norm, and the one to take if you carry people rather than just yourself.
