Frequently asked questions

The 500C has kept its retro shape and cloth-roof layout throughout its run here, so there's no clear generation split to chase. Pick on roof condition and interior wear rather than model year.

Fabric roof operation and seal condition, checked open and closed.
Water ingress around the roof rails and boot seal.
Clutch feel and gear engagement on the manual gearbox.
Air conditioning performance, essential given the climate and the fabric roof.

Browse current 500C stock and inspection reports before you decide.

The far dearer Volkswagen Golf inspects cleaner on interior wear than most cars this size, at 26% against the 36% we would expect for small hatchbacks here. The similarly priced Kia Rio runs higher at 47% against the same benchmark and doesn't offer a folding roof at all, which is the whole reason to consider the 500C over it.
