The RX5 arrived in the second half of the 2010s and was updated at the turn of the decade with revised styling, a larger screen and better cabin materials, before MG moved the segment to the HS. Later cars have the better interior, and with the model out of production the gap between years is small — pay for condition.

Poorly, and that is the point of buying one used — about 35% of its value after five years, against roughly 51% for UAE SUVs and 52% across used MGs. The first owner absorbs that. The Mitsubishi ASX keeps about 60%.

Cleaner than expected on the things owners usually neglect. Only 5% of the RX5s we inspect in the UAE show interior staining, against the 18% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the country, and only 2% arrive with mismatched or damaged tyres against 9% for that same group. Median mileage is about 70,000 km and nothing rises above expectation. The cheaper Chevrolet Captiva, by contrast, shows 31% staining against 18%.

The ASX is smaller, older in design and far better at holding its money — the choice if ownership cost matters most. The Volkswagen Tiguan asks similar money and drives better, but 68% of the ones we inspect carry prior body or panel repair against the 61% expected for its group. The RX5's case is space and equipment per dirham.
