How much does a used BYD cost in the UAE?
Nearly new money rather than bargain money, and what it buys is a car with battery warranty still running. Asking prices across our current UAE listings go from AED 82100 for a compact crossover up to AED 219000 for the largest plug-in, and even the top of that band is a car barely run in.
Are used BYDs reliable?
An electric drivetrain has less to go wrong than a petrol one, so the inspection changes shape: battery state of health, charging behaviour and software version matter more than compression and oil. Get the battery health reading in writing, confirm what is left of the warranty and whether it transfers, and look hard at the tyres, which wear faster on heavy electric cars than owners expect. Charging is simpler than people fear — if you can charge where you park, a fully electric BYD is straightforward here, and public charging in Dubai and Abu Dhabi is well established and still expanding. The plug-in models sidestep the question, running on petrol when the battery is flat.
Which used BYD should you buy?
The Song Plus is the sensible family choice and the cheapest way in. The Han is a quiet, quick executive saloon for mid-range crossover money. The Shark 6 is the outlier, a plug-in pickup that doubles as a weekday family car. The Atto 3 is the compact alternative.
BYD or Chery?
Chery and Changan undercut it with petrol crossovers and have more workshops used to them. BYD builds its own batteries and has the broadest electrified line-up of the three.
What to check on a used BYD
- Battery state of health, plus the remaining warranty and whether it transfers.
- A charging test on both AC and DC, not just a dashboard reading.
- Tyre wear, which runs faster at these weights.
