BAIC arrived in the UAE as a value proposition and the used cars follow the same logic: a lot of metal, a lot of equipment, and a price under the Japanese and Korean equivalents. The range splits between the boxy BJ off-roaders and the X-series crossovers, and the used examples are still young cars.
What to check on a used BAIC
Compare a used BAIC against the new price of what else that money buys, then read the mechanical report before you commit.
Less than a mainstream crossover of the same age, which is the whole argument for the badge. Asking prices across our current UAE listings run from AED 191,600 to AED 191,600, with the square-jawed BJ80 off-roader at the expensive end of that band.
Better than you might expect. Across the model curves we can measure, BAICs average about 57% of their value after five years in the UAE, helped by used buyers comparing them against the price of a new mainstream rival rather than against a badge.
The cars we see are barely broken in, so a mechanical flag matters more than it would on an older car. Across the BAICs we have inspected in the UAE, 10% showed a fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 2% we would expect for cars of this age and mileage in the Emirates. At these mileages the flagged items are usually still inside warranty, so the question is whether the work was claimed and documented, and the mechanical pages of the report tell you.
