What to look over on a used Ford F-150
Read the mechanical section of the CarSwitch inspection report on any F-150 you shortlist — this is a class where condition varies enormously between two trucks of the same year.
Asking prices on the F-150s we list run from AED 88000 for a late-2010s truck to AED 109000 for an early-2020s one, and specification moves the number as much as the year does — cab style, drive and trim separate two trucks of the same age by a wide margin.
This is the strongest inspection record of any pickup we handle here. A mechanical fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering shows on 9% of the Ford F-150s we inspect in the UAE, against the 19% we would expect for pickups of the same age and mileage in the Emirates.
The GMC Sierra asks more and shows prior panel repair on 36% of the ones we inspect. The Ford Ranger is the cheaper, smaller Ford and easier to park. The F-150 is the one to buy when payload and towing matter.
2015 is the line that matters. That is when the F-150 switched to an aluminium body, dropping serious weight and gaining a much better cabin, and when turbocharged V6s took over from the V8 in most trucks. A further generation followed for 2021 with a new interior and a hybrid option. A 2018 to 2020 truck is the value window; from 2021 you are paying for the newest shape.
It sits right on the class average, keeping about 46% of its value after five years — the same as pickups of similar age and mileage, and ahead of the 44% across our Ford listings. The Toyota Hilux is in a different league at about 64%, so if resale is your first concern, look there instead.
