The Mini Cooper is bought for character — nothing else at the price steers or looks like it. We have 2 used Coopers listed.
What to look over on a used Mini Cooper
Read the electrical section of the CarSwitch inspection report on our UAE Mini Cooper listings — it predicts what you spend next year.
Our UAE sales put a 2024 Mini Cooper at about AED 58,000, a 2019 at AED 40,000, a 2018 at AED 33,000 and a 2017 at AED 29,000. Buying used rather than a new Mini Cooper saves about 28% on this model. Live asking prices run from AED 23000 for a late-2010s car up to AED 38000 for a recent one.
The electronics are the known cost. 17% of the Mini Coopers we inspect in the UAE show an electrical or electronics fault, against the 10% we would expect for hatchbacks of the same age and mileage in the country, at a median of about 100,000 km. Sensors, modules and switchgear packed into a small body is what character costs to keep. The mechanicals are tougher than the reputation, but budget for electrical work as routine, not as a surprise.
The Clubman is the same car with usable rear doors and a boot, keeps more of its money and costs less used — take it unless you want the three-door shape. The BMW 320 asks a little more and is the grown-up alternative on related engineering, with a better panel record at 47% against the 61% expected for its age and mileage group. Nothing here drives as entertainingly as the Cooper.
2018 to 2021. The third-generation Cooper arrived in 2014 with the 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo and was facelifted for 2018 — LED lighting, a new gearbox on many cars, revised infotainment. That facelift is the line to be on the right side of, and by then the generation's early build issues had been worked through.
Below the class — about 42% of its value after five years, against roughly 48% for comparable hatchbacks in the UAE and 50% across used Minis. The Mini Clubman does better, at about 53%.
