Why used SUVs and crossovers are the sweet spot right now
About 63% of the cars listed on CarSwitch are SUVs, but buyer searches for SUVs sit closer to 49%. That mismatch is good news if you’re shopping. More supply, steadier demand — you’ll find more options without racing other buyers to the same listing.

Three used cars in UAE that hold their value on long drives
1. Hyundai Creta — the value king
The Hyundai Creta is the compact crossover that barely loses money. A four-year-old Creta still holds about 92% of the value of a one-year-old example. That’s roughly 4% loss per year — outstanding for this class.
A 2023 model lists around AED 64,500 with about 53,000 km on the clock. That’s about 25% less than what the same car costs new. Enough space for four adults, decent ground clearance for graded roads, and fuel-sipping enough for the long haul to Al Ain or beyond.
2. Kia Sportage — more space, still strong value
Need a bigger cabin? The Kia Sportage gives you more rear legroom and a larger boot. A 2023 model lists around AED 90,000 — roughly a quarter less than buying new — and typically shows about 42,000 km. At four years old, the Sportage still holds about 84% of its one-year-old value.
The 2022 model is worth a look too. It lists around AED 76,000 with about 63,000 km. That’s about 36% below the new price — a solid saving for a car that’s barely run in by UAE standards.
3. The compact crossover category — your widest net
If you’re open on brand, compact crossovers as a whole lose only about 6% a year over their first two years. Compare that to compact sedans, which drop closer to 11% a year over the same period. For a road trip car that you might sell in a year or two, the crossover holds up better.

What to check before a long drive
Every car on CarSwitch goes through a thorough inspection before it’s listed. But if you’re about to put 1,000 km on a car in a weekend, a few things matter more than usual.
Accident history. Cars with a minor accident on record list for about 9% less than clean-history equivalents. That can be fair value — or a sign to dig deeper into what was repaired. We’re transparent about accident history on every listing.
Tyres and brakes. Desert roads eat rubber. Check tread depth and brake-pad thickness before you set off. Our inspection covers both, but it’s worth a visual check if the car’s been sitting.
Trim level. A fully loaded model costs about 7% more than the base version. For road trips, cruise control and a good sound system make the drive. Semi-loaded trims split the difference at around 4% less than fully loaded — often the smartest pick.
