Dubai residents take note, if you are going from Marina to Downtown, your Salik costs just doubled! So, plan your routes accordingly! The extra costs may come with a bit of time-saving during rush hour on SZR. So, there’s more to it! Read on to find out.
You are used to paying for Salik and probably know that the Al Safa and Al Barsha gates were linked avoid people going from Marina to Downtown being charged twice. Well, that has now changed. You will now be charged every time you use one of these gates. That is an extra AED 8 a day or AED 2,000 per year for those working in Marina but living in Downtown! The change was made after extensive work on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road so those looking to save a bit of money have options!
Why did they do this? Well, RTA’s stated aim is to redistribute the traffic flow on main roads. They want to try and keep Shaikh Zayed Road (SZR) solely as an express traffic corridor. RTA is hoping that separating the link between the two toll gates will reduce the traffic flow on the SZR as transit traffic seeks to avoid the extra Salik charges by moving to Al Khail Road, Emirates Road, and Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. If you are traveling from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah and other Emirates, and just passing through Dubai, this 62-km long traffic corridor is the way to go. In a nutshell, good news for Dubai residents in a hurry on SZR but bad news for those of us looking to save money. Here’s to hoping all these RTA efforts pay off.
