According to a senior official at the GITEX show in Dubai last Sunday, residents will be able to rent a driver by using a Dubai Transport Corporation app by the end of this month! So, if you have a used car in Dubai for which you need a driver, you can do so through this app.
For AED 40, residents can request the services of a personal driver through the free DTC app of Dubai Transport Corporation. This launch will be a part of the Dubai Roads and Transport program and the minimum charge for two hours will be AED 80.
You can hire a driver by the hour
Dr. Al Ali, CEO of the DTC said that the app is useful when someone is too tired to drive by themselves, or when your driver is away on holiday or in any other “driverless” scenario.
He also added that app users can also call for a male or a female driver. They can even request a driver who speaks a particular language such as English, Arabic, Urdu and Hindi.
The app also offers a limo service
If you want something different from your regular used car in Dubai, then there is a rental service option available too. Other than the standard limo, users can call for a family limousine, an electric limo or a limo for ladies only.
Dr Al Ali said: “We are more cost-effective than others as our limos and the technology we use are our own assets. There is no commission [that is passed on as additional cost to customer]. We also have promo codes for discounts and special rates for frequent users.”
Virtual NOL card
At the GITEX 2019, the RTA also launched its virtual NOL card initiative from October 6 to October 10. The NOL card allows people to pay for public transport, refuelling at stations and shopping at public outlets and many other conveniences.
Mohammad Al Khayat, Director of Automated Fare Collection at RTA’s Corporate Technology Support Services Sector told the media that users can buy virtual NOL cards, save it in their phones and top up the card using their credit card. After enabling the NFC services in the smartphone, users can pay for metro, tram, bus and marine services.
He concluded by saying that the RTA is planning to make the virtual NOL card mainstream by the third quarter of 2020. After some time, all the current functions of the NOL card will be added to the virtual card. This initiative has come at the right time as Dubai will be the host of mega Expo Event 2020 next year!
