Mercedes-Benz cars for sale in Dubai are so popular that we tend to forget the lineage that goes back more than a century. And now Mercedes is paying homage to its very own! Ducking the concept car trend of introducing futuristic cars, Mercedes is bringing back the retro-inspired roadster from the past: the Vision Mercedes Simplex.
The lineage started more than a century ago when Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft launched the first Mercedes: the Mercedes 35 PS. It drastically changed people’s perspective on cars.
Inspired by the 1901 35 PS
The Mercedes 35 PS was popularised during the Nice Race Week in the 1900s. Back then, with a horsepower of 35, the Mercedes driver emerged victorious in the 392 km race. He also bought home the trophy for winning the hillclimb race at an average speed of 51.4 km/h. Paul Meyan, Secretary General of the Automobile Club of France, was so impressed with the performance. He said, “We have entered the Mercedes era”
After that, the Mercedes would dominate every race it entered. It launched a flat vehicle design operating at high performance (but light) running engine, with an integrated radiator at the front.
The part name, Mercedes, came from Emil Jellinek – a wealthy European automobile entrepreneur from Austria. He was a huge fan of what Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach were developing in the 1890s that he started selling cars for them. He was also fond of his daughter, Adriana, whom he called Mercedes as a pet name.
While the latter part of the name, Benz, hails from Karl Benz who created the Benz Patent Motorwagen in 1886. It was a carriage with speeds up to 10 mph with a single-cylinder engine.
Vision Mercedes Simplex: A Fabulous Fusion of Past and Present
Taking inspiration from the Mercedes 35 PS, the Vision Mercedes Simplex pays ode to Maybach and Daimler: how this legendary vehicle emerged.
The new car conveys an important message about luxury and innovation. This is stated by Gorden Wagener, the Chief Design Officer. He says:
“Only a brand that is as strong as Mercedes-Benz is capable of the physical symbiosis of history and future. The “Vision Mercedes Simplex” symbolises the transformation of the brand-specific luxury of Mercedes-Benz.”
The Vision Simplex, though, ramps up the design owing mostly to the wheels which run on electric motors. But apart from this detail, the motor vehicle model stays true to its roots.
Perhaps, the winning point is the digitized, rose gold Mercedes logo which adorns the car. Complete with leather straps, no windshield and a classic two-tone paint job, the Vision Mercedes Simplex is an experience of race cars in the olden days.
The interior, however, is a sleek work of art which maximizes on elegance and updated technology. The look, not to worry, has not been compromised with the wood embellished steering wheel and vintage clock still in place. With upholstery fitted seats and quilting in a regal blue shade, Mercedes-Benz has not missed out on comfort either.
