Toyota Fortuner and Hilux have got quite a fan following in the Middle East and the company has now given a makeover to both the SUV and the pickup truck. CarSwitch.com, an online marketplace that provides an easy and hassle-free way to buy a car in Abu Dhabi, did some research to share the details with you.
Toyota Fortuner Refresh
Apart from a facelift, the new model has also received a performance and efficiency boost. Although the new variant still has the 2.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, it’s horsepower and torque have been bumped up to 201 and 369 lb-ft respectively.
The engine’s efficiency has also improved by 17 percent. Moreover, the SUV’s maximum braked towing capacity has been increased by 660 pounds to 6,834 pounds.
The facelifted model has a more prominent front fascia and overall, it looks tougher with a bigger grille, revamped bumper with embedded skid-plate design, and beefier fog-lamp bezels. The LED headlights have shrunk though.
The new Fortuner also features an 8-inch touch screen that’s compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and touts voice activation capabilities.
Crusade, GX, and GXL spec grades will stay.
If you want a more aerodynamic design and additional equipment, a special variant called the Legender is also there.
The 7-seater is coming to various markets including Australia, Indonesia, India, and Malaysia this summer.
Pricing details haven’t been revealed yet.
Toyota Hilux
The 2020 Toyota Hilux gets a power boost, better towing capacity, and retuned suspension.
The 2.8-liter engine now delivers 150kW/500Nm, as opposed to the outgoing variants 130kW and 450Nm. The automaker says new components and a better cooling system is behind this improvement in performance.
The six-speed automatic truck’s towing capacity has been increased by 500kg to 3500kg. A traction control function has also been added to 4×4 models with downhill-assist control. This means that torque will be rerouted in 2WD mode to offer more grip.
The suspension layout has been treated to shock-absorber tuning, a better leaf-spring design, and new bushings. This will improve the vehicle’s low-speed ride quality.
Like the new Fortuner, the improved Hilux also flaunts an 8-inch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is also a 4.2-inch screen in the instrument cluster to display speed.
The new Hilux series will come in three body styles – single, extra, and double cap. You can choose from two configurations- pick-up and cab-chassis and five equipment tiers – Workmate, SR, SR5, Rogue, and Rugged-X.
Hopefully, with the new model, the company has fixed the diesel particulate filter problems.
The upgraded Hilux is arriving this August. It will go on sale in various markets and pricing details will likely be revealed when the release date inches closer.
