Dubai Authorities are now taking a strict stand against used car owners in Dubai who drive recklessly. The awareness campaign was set in motion after a terrible car accident in Al-Ain that took the lives of four residents and left one with life-threatening injuries.
The unfortunate accident happened on the fourth of Ramadan when two drivers raced past each other and ran over two women in the process. Following the incident, Dubai and Abu Dhabi police categorically announced that violators will be penalised and fined. There will be a fine of 2,000 AED, 23 black points on the traffic file history and the vehicle will be impounded for 60 days.
The traffic police pointed out that rash and reckless drivers tend to race in residential areas and highways and not only put in jeopardy their own lives but also the lives of other drivers and pedestrians. The police also stated that during Ramadan street races happen at late night or early in the morning.
The UAE takes strict and preventative measures against rash and reckless driving and will also take legal measures against street racing.
Colonel Juma Salim Bin Suwaidan, Director General of Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said that awareness and education among youth should be done to prevent illegal races. Moreover, the Police are also going to spread their message on social media.
Following the tragic events, every used car owner in Dubai should practice safe driving and prioritize road safety at every cost.
