Porsche has added two new variants to 911: Targa 4 and 4S. These models were unveiled only recently and some details are still under wraps. Here is what we know about the two new variants. Impressive performance
The vanilla Targa 4 is underpinned by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six gas engine. It produces 379 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. The Targa 4S has the same engine inside and it outputs 443 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.
An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is standard and there is also an option of a seven-speed manual. A six-speed manual is also available on the 4S and it also includes the Sport Chrono package.
The Targa 4 will go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds and the 4S will achieve that in just 3.4 seconds.
Both models also offer all-wheel drive and Porsche Traction Management (PTM).
The cars also get in-house PASM two-mode adaptive dampers and the 4S also features a standard electronic limited-slip rear differential which is optional on Targa 4. The company’s Wet Mode, which can detect water on roads using sensors, is also included. The Targa 4 gets 330-millimeter brakes as standard and the 4S gets 350 mm brakes. You can upgrade to a ceramic-composite brake system, but that would require you to pay extra.
Unmatched exterior
The new Targa 4 looks largely the same as the rest of the 911 lineup. It has an electronically operated roof panel that can be retracted or deployed in 19 seconds. Like the outgoing model, it also has a support bar that spans the width of the vehicle. The large curved glass window at the back makes it look more striking than the standard 911 Cabriolet variant.
The car will be available in five colors. The white detailing gives the vehicle extra visual flair.
It also features a Porsche crest from the 1960s on the steering wheel, hood, car key, and wheel centers.
Owners of the car will also be treated to a special edition 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition Chronograph watch which will be made by Porsche Design. It’s white second hand, green rings, and the watch face are inspired by the company’s speedometers and rev counters.
Price
The 2021 Porsche 911 Targa will be arriving at dealerships later this year. However, pre-orders are now open. Standard Targa starts at $120,650 and the Targa 4S costs $136,550 in its base tier configuration. A special edition variant is also coming this month.
