Great news for UAE used car owners! And it involves some convenient money-making as well! After suspension of operations two years ago, Uber rides will be seen on Abu Dhabi roads once again.
Uber has launched a taxi service in Abu Dhabi with an “Emirati” option service at same fares as standard taxis.
Uber and the department of transport and the integrated transport centre (ITC) shook hands on a formal agreement. Officials said that the Emirati service will open up new job opportunities for private Emirati car owners, make transport economical and also give tourists a refreshing cultural tour of the place.
Uber Regional Manager of the Middle East, Anthony Al-Khoury said that according to the agreement Emiratis can use the app to drive their private cars on a regular or part-time basis.
Al-Khoury further stated that ,”Our whole negotiation with the ITC was for us to be able to launch in an affordable way to move around Abu Dhabi. We found the best way to do so was to open it up for the Emiratis. Now Emiratis with a private driving license and not a commercial one can use their private cars and drive on Uber. And pricing of this product is on par with taxis (at Dh12). It is a very affordable transportation similar to what taxis are providing”.
Emiratis can use this service to create additional economic opportunities. The flexibility that this particular market is unheard of in the market. Any Emirati can work 2-3 hours everyday and bring in a little cash. They can also buy a used car, UAE and use it as an Uber taxi.
Officials say that Uber offers complete transparency through new and technologically advanced safety features. As a rider you will know the name of your driver, the time taken for the driver to reach you, car number and type, navigation, post trip reviews and speed limit pop-up.
ITC general manager Mohammed Darwish Al Qamzi claims that Emirati service will improve customer experience. People visiting Abu Dhabi can get a cultural flavour of the place by riding with Emirati residents in their personal cars.
Uber’s partnership with Toyota to mass produce autonomous vehicles is going to expand their foot hold in the automotive industry even more. With the UAE partnership, they are not only gaining influence in the Middle East but also changing the way people approach global transportation.
