Why the 2020 Yaris hits the sweet spot

A new Yaris costs about AED 75,000. A 2020 model gets you the same generation for around AED 43,000 — that’s a saving of roughly AED 32,000. And at about 79,000 km, these cars are barely into middle age for a Toyota.

Jump one year newer to a 2021, and you’re paying around AED 47,000 for essentially the same mileage. That extra AED 4,000 doesn’t buy you much. Go a year older to 2019, and the price drops to around AED 37,000, but those listings are fewer — which means less choice.

“The 2020 Yaris is the one buyers keep asking about,” says Kamel Abbou, Country Manager, UAE, at CarSwitch. “It’s the right balance — low enough mileage, real savings, and plenty to choose from.”

How fast the Yaris loses value

This is actually good news for a used buyer. The Yaris drops about a quarter of its value by year three, then the curve flattens out. A three-year-old Yaris still holds about 81% of what a one-year-old example costs. By year five, it’s down to around 67%.

That means the steepest losses have already been absorbed by the first owner. If you buy a 2020 or 2021 model, someone else has already paid for the biggest chunk of that drop.

From CarSwitch data
A 3-year-old Yaris retains 81.4% of a 1-year-old example’s value.
A 5-year-old Yaris retains 67% — the slowdown in value loss makes the 2020–2021 range the value pocket.
A 2020 Yaris saves you AED 31,910 compared to buying new (42.6% less).

What about the really affordable ones?

Yes, you can find a used Toyota Yaris in Dubai for around AED 21,000. That’s a 2016 or 2017 model. They work. They’re Toyotas. But you need to go in with your eyes open.

At 150,000+ km, you’re looking at a car that will need things — tyres, brakes, possibly suspension bushings. Factor in AED 2,000–3,000 for near-term maintenance. And because our listing count for those years is smaller, you’ll have less to pick from.

If your budget is firmly under AED 25,000, a 2016–2017 Yaris is still one of the most sensible options in the UAE. Just make sure it’s inspection-verified before you hand over the money.

What actually moves the Toyota Yaris price in the UAE

Accident history

This is the single biggest price lever on a Yaris. A car with a minor accident on its record costs about 8–9% less than an identical one with a clean history. That’s real money — around AED 3,500–4,000 on a 2020 model. Some buyers are fine with that trade-off, but you need to know what you’re buying. Every car on CarSwitch comes with an inspection report, so there are no hidden surprises.

Trim level

A base Yaris costs roughly 7% less than a fully loaded one. On a 2022 model, that’s about AED 3,500. If you don’t care about leather seats or a sunroof, go base and save.

Warranty

A Yaris still under manufacturer warranty asks about 5% more. That premium shrinks as the car ages, so it mostly matters on 2022–2024 models.

How much room is there to negotiate?

On Yaris-priced cars — those listed between AED 30,000 and AED 60,000 — we’ve seen about 7% come off the asking price. That’s roughly AED 3,000 on a 2020 model. It’s not guaranteed, but it’s a reasonable starting point for a conversation.

On the older models listed under AED 30,000, there tends to be a bit more flexibility — we’ve seen closer to 9% on cars in that range.

When to buy

Used car prices in the UAE dip slightly during summer. July and August run about 1–2% below the yearly norm. January and February tend to be the priciest months, sitting about 3–4% above. On a AED 43,000 Yaris, that’s a swing of roughly AED 2,000–3,000 depending on timing.

It’s not life-changing, but if you’re flexible, shopping in summer months puts a bit more in your pocket.

Yaris vs the rest of its class

The Yaris holds its value better than the compact sedan group overall. Similar-sized cars typically hold about 64% of their value at four years. The Yaris holds nearly 73%. That means you’ll pay a small premium over some rivals upfront, but you’ll get more back when you sell.

If you’re also considering similar cars, have a look at the Toyota Corolla — it’s a step up in size for not much more money. Or if a smaller car suits you, browse hatchbacks across the UAE.

What is the Toyota Yaris price in the UAE for a used model?

It depends on the year. A 2016 Yaris starts around AED 21,000, while a 2022 model sits around AED 51,000. The 2020 model is the value sweet spot at roughly AED 43,000, saving you about 43% compared to buying new.

Which Toyota Yaris model year is the smartest used buy?

The 2020 model. It costs around AED 43,000, has about 79,000 km on the clock, and saves you roughly AED 32,000 over a brand-new Yaris. There are plenty of listings to choose from too.

How much can I negotiate on a used Toyota Yaris?

On Yaris models listed between AED 30,000 and AED 60,000, we’ve seen around 7% come off the asking price. That works out to about AED 3,000 on a 2020 model, though every car is different.

Yes, noticeably. A Yaris with even a minor accident on record costs about 8–9% less than one with a clean history. That’s why an inspection report matters — it tells you exactly what you’re paying for.
