The Oscars season is over but the buzz still remains, even in Dubai! Here at CarSwitch, we figured we should take it as an opportunity to roll out this cool list of top seven car movies of the new millennium. Number 7 – The Transporter (2002): An action flick chock-full of mayhem and freewheeling comes in at number seven. The Transporter features Jason Statham as a mercenary delivery man transporting any sort of cargo, no questions asked. His life is turned upside-down when the package turns out to be a gagged woman.
Number 6 – Collateral (2004): Rolling into sixth place is Collateral, a stylish thriller in which a cab driver is taken on the ride of his life. It stars Tom Cruise as Vincent, a villainous assassin at the top of his game, and Jamie Foxx as Max, a taxi driver with big dreams and no results. Five stops, five hits, and one getaway! It’s a car movie you wouldn’t want to miss!
Number 5 – Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006): If you are into comedy movies, this hilarious racing spoof will be just your cup of tea. The movie stars Will Ferrell as Ricky Bobby, America’s number one NASCAR speed-demon. Losing his confidence following a crash, Ricky goes to hysterical lengths to get back in the game. Spoiler alert! Watch out for the cougar riding shotgun in a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu!
Number 4 – Death Proof (2007): With Quentin Tarantino at the helm, Death Proof is an excellent horror movie and the ultimate car stunt flick. It features Kurt Russell as a stunt car driver in a vintage, reinforced Chevy out to drive a carload of unsuspecting females off the road. Good thing the girls have better wheel game than the psychopath out to get them!
Number 3 – Rush (2013): Snatching the third spot is a biopic that takes racing to a whole new level. It’s based on the real-life rivalry between racers James Hunt and Nikki Lauda during the 1976 Formula 1 season.The crazy sequences brilliantly capture the thrill and danger of racing. It’s easily one of the greatest professional racing movies of all time.
Number 2 – Gone in 60 Seconds (2000): Cruising into second place is the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds. It’s a star-studded heist flick featuring one of the most iconic movie cars. Nicolas Cage plays the role of a master thief who has to steal fifty cars in 96 minutes. His partners-in-crime are none other than Robert Duvall and Angelina Jolie. Many credit it with saving the Mustang, inspiring its 2005 retro redesign.
Number 1 – The Fast and the Furious: And the winner is…cue the drum roll… the Fast and the Furious series! Notice we say ‘series’, mainly because it’s difficult to pick a winner. It will be hard to find a car lover who hasn’t heard of the blockbuster franchise. Centered around heists and illegal street car racing, the movies are jam-packed with action that will have you at the edge of your seats! If you are into the series, you will love these muscle cars featured in the Fast&Furious movies.
