McLaren has had its hands full with launching new and limited edition cars recently. So when we heard that McLaren is coming up with another car, we weren’t too psyched. However, when we found out that it is the limited edition, road-legal variant of the McLaren 570S GT racing car, it was a game changer for us and we’re sure it will entice many car enthusiasts to sell any car in Abu Dhabi.
McLaren 620R Engine and Performance
The 620R packs the usual M838TE 3.8-liter turbocharged V8 engine under the hood which is the engine with the highest output. It delivers a whopping 611 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with the company’s 7-speed seamless-shift gearbox. The carmaker claims that it can cover 0-60 mph in a blistering 2.8 seconds, topping of at 200mph.
The 620R weighs just 3,055.6 pounds which is a little less than its main rival Ferrari F8 Tributo. The racing car features adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars instead of hydraulic suspension technology. However, the adaptive dampers are optional and steering is of the electrically-assisted hydraulic kind.
The car runs on sticky Pirelli Trofeo R tires and features carbon-ceramic brakes with four-piston calipers at the rear and calipers in the front. However, McLaren has worked with Pirelli to make racing slicks too. They can be fitted easily without requiring any further adjustment.
For the aerodynamics, the race car gets a massive, adjustable carbon-fiber wing on the rear and carbon fiber dive planes on the front. This will help dial-up downforce at speed. The company says that dive planes provide 66 lbs of downforce and combined, the frontal aero package offers 143 lbs.
McLaren 620R Cabin and Exterior
The cabin has also been altered and is not the same as that of the regular 570S. Carbon fiber racing seats are standard and they have six-point harnesses in place of seat belts. The car also has carbon-fiber shift paddles and door pull straps. The steering wheel gets a red 12 o’clock mark, to give the vehicle a sporty feel.
The cabin doesn’t have carpeting, air-conditioning, stereo, a navigation system, or glove box to keep the weight in check. However, you can always get them installed for no added cost if you want.
The 620R will be available in three exterior finishes, including the Silica White with orange stripes, Onyx Black with orange stripes, and Orange with white racing stripes. Additionally, the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) can cater to different requests with regards to the color palette, decals and even a Mclaren Senna inspired special livery. Only 350 units of the McLaren 620R will be made in the company’s factory in Surrey, UK.
