Tesla’s three-wheeled car has received mixed reception since its launch. A three-wheeled car? People are all in a tizzy thinking would they be buying a car or just a glorified version of a cycle? It’s not just the car chemistry that has made the future of Tesla’s three-wheeled car run into trouble but competition from Polaris (Slingshot), Elio motors and Campagna (T-Rex). Overcoming motor laws against them has also been one of their major obstacles. Looks like it will be a while before people consider buying this car in Dubai!
Burning competition from other automakers
Tesla’s three wheeler has entered the zone with stiff competition from other wheelers such as the edgy three-wheeler of Polaris, known aptly as the Slingshot. Another automaker start-up, Elio motors has also introduced their three-wheeler to the market. All of this means that Tesla will have to bring their A-game if they want to “wheel” their customers in. As of now, the tight competition from other automakers is too soon for us to write them off.
Lukewarm sales due to restrictive laws
There is nothing worse for an autocomany than angry legislators. Well, unfortunately for Tesla, they have been fighting to get their three-wheeler to consumers in Michigan, Arizona and Texas where laws have been passed that ban Tesla three-wheelers. The drawback has not stopped Tesla from lobbying against the laws though. Their efforts have been met with success in a few states.
The Federal Trade of Commision (FTC) has stepped in favour of Tesla, interceding the states to amend the bill and enable manufacturers of Tesla and other electric and non-fossil fuel technologies to market and sell their products to the consumers. Michigan is one of the states that has seen it fit to amend the bill in light of these interventions.
The good news for Tesla, though, is that the state of Maryland, New Jersey and Georgia have signed bills enabling direct sales to the customers. Other states are expected to follow the example soon.
At the moment it seems that Tesla’s three-wheeler is far from getting its share of popularity worldwide. But the situation is bound to change in the future. But hey! Dubai’ans have already got their fair share of Tesla in the electric car showroom in Dubai! So, until our three-wheeler gets back on its wheels, you can sell car in Dubai to switch to the sleek sedan of model X.
