After Ford refreshed its Edge model in the UAE, the automaker also added the ST variant to its SUV family in the region. For those who are unaware of what this addition means, the Ford Edge ST 2019 car on sale in the UAE now has the most brutal V6 engine in the Ford Edge family. Naturally, for a vehicle of this size and weight, we wouldn’t expect anything less than a V6 engine. However, it is not just the sheer performance of the engine that matters, but also its efficiency, and that’s what makes the Edge ST 2019 so special and worth buying.
Ford Edge ST2019 – The Engine
Let us talk about the heart of the Edge ST, or more specifically, the engine. The latest model from Ford touts a tuned 2.7-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine that can pump out 335 of horsepower and a torque of 515 Nm, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A standard all-wheel drive control is present, but there’s also a performance brake package available. Depending on the person’s usage and style of driving, the Ford Edge ST’s suspension can be adjusted to suit the individual’s needs.
In the case you’re wondering, the Sport Mode provides better throttle response. Additionally, this version of the Ford Edge holds its gear better, giving the driver better control when moving through corners, as well as better engine braking. The Edge ST also has paddle shifters while the front seats have additional bolstering.
Ford Edge ST 2019 – The Exterior
While the engine and tuning are important attributes of the car, the exterior also carries significant weight. The Ford Edge ST has a wide mesh grille and dual-exhaust outlets. You also get 21-inch wheels as standard. The 2019 version comes with what Ford likes to call the Co-Pilot360. It couples driver-assist features as standard functionality. Other smart features of the car include dual-stage airbags, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, Park Assist, side-curtain airbags, and a 180-degree front camera, all of which are available as standard. For smartphones with Qi wireless charging capability, there’s a wireless charging pad inside the vehicle and a Harman-branded 12-speaker premium audio system. For navigation purposes, there’s also an 8-inch touchscreen.
In short, the Ford Edge ST 2019 is a smarter vehicle than its predecessors, but as always, the features that have been added as ‘standard’ will cost you an additional AED 115,000 for the starting price. However, if you require such a vehicle and can fit it in your budget, perhaps this should be your next purchase.
