If you grew up watching cartoons, you might remember some popular shows that had cars that seemed too futuristic for that time. However, thanks to technological advancements, some of those have become a reality now, while others are under development. You might not be able to buy some of them right now and would just have to make do with other new and used cars in Dubai. But if this pace of progress continues, it will not be long before we will be living it up like our favorite characters. This guide by CarSwitch.com will keep you up-to-date with the latest advancements.
Cars That Can Talk To You
If you remember KITT from Knight Rider, the indestructible supercar got its smart features from artificial intelligence. It was so smart that it could talk. Fast forward to today, many cars now come equipped with digital assistants from Apple, Amazon, and Google. These can answer your questions and also carry out instructions.
Self-Driving Cars
Lightning McQueen is an anthropomorphic car seen in some Pixar films. It could also drive itself, which looked nothing short of magical. Except of course now we know that it takes sensors, cameras, and coding to give new and used cars self-driving capabilities. Various vendors have already started testing their autonomous cars but it might take a few more years before vehicles can move around on their own without requiring the presence of a driver.
Flying Vehicles
If you remember the cartoon “The Jetsons,” you might remember that it showed a family using a flying car as a ride. And now, there are various companies actively working on a flying car. For instance, Uber is working on VTOL taxis and plans to make them commercially available by 2023. The Slovakian company AeroMobil also wants to make functioning flying cars a reality and hopes to start shipping them from next year. But then of course, it could take years before they become a thing.
Underwater Cars
Another fictional idea that manufacturers want to turn into reality is an underwater vehicle. Tesla’s Cybertruck has been inspired by “Wet Nellie”, the 1976 Lotus Esprit seen in the Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me. The Cybertruck might not be an underwater car, but some other prototypes exist that can drive on both land and water such as the Rinspeed sQuba. However, production plans haven’t been finalized yet.
Robot Vehicles
The Turkish R&D company Letrons has managed to turn the E90-generation BMW 3 Series into a robot, reminding fans of Transformers. The manufacturer was able to turn the car into a robot and then back into a car again. Not many similar examples exist.
