Wait for December. Prices drop about 4%.

If you’re planning to buy used cars in Dubai in the next couple of months, hold off until December. Our own listings data shows December is the cheapest month of the year — prices sit about 4% below the annual norm. January flips to the most expensive, about 4% above. That’s a swing of roughly 8% in just a few weeks. Time it right, prepare now, and you keep real money in your pocket.

The short version

  • December prices run about 4% below the yearly norm — the lowest month we’ve tracked.
  • January is the priciest, about 4% above — so waiting into the new year costs you.
  • On a car listed around AED 80,000, the December-to-January difference is roughly AED 7,000.
  • Start shortlisting and getting finance pre-approved now so you can move fast in December.
  • Every car on CarSwitch is inspection-verified before it’s listed — the condition question is already answered.

Why December prices dip when you buy used cars in Dubai

Two things happen at the end of the year. Sellers who listed in autumn want their cars gone before the holidays. And new-model incentives from showrooms push more trade-ins onto the market. More supply, slightly softer demand — prices come down.

Then January hits and the pattern reverses. Bonuses land, new residents arrive, and everyone shops at once. Prices climb right back up.

“Every year we see the same thing. December sellers are motivated — they don’t want to carry a car into the new year. Buyers who are ready benefit.”

Kamel Abbou, Country Manager, UAE, at CarSwitch

How big is the gap, in real numbers?

According to CarSwitch listings data (July 2026), December’s price index sits at about 96 against a baseline of 100. January jumps to about 104. That’s the widest month-to-month swing in the calendar.

Here’s what that looks like in money. On a car listed at AED 60,000 in a normal month, December pricing brings it closer to AED 57,400. Wait until January for the same car and you’re looking at around AED 62,600. That’s over AED 5,000 apart — for the exact same vehicle.

Scale it up. A car that would normally list near AED 150,000 could sit around AED 143,500 in December and jump to about AED 156,600 in January. That’s more than AED 13,000.

The pattern is clear: prices rise through Q1 and don’t settle back toward the norm until later in the year. December is the window.

December Is the Cheapest Month to Buy

You’re already saving by buying used — timing makes it even better

The used-vs-new savings in Dubai are significant on their own. A 2019 BMW 330i, for example, lists at around AED 76,000 on CarSwitch. The same car cost about AED 278,000 new — that’s roughly 73% off. A 2022 BMW X4 sits near AED 187,000 versus AED 377,000 new, about half price.

Add December’s roughly 4% seasonal discount on top, and the value stacks. On that BMW X4, the December dip alone could represent another AED 7,000 to AED 8,000 in your favour.

From CarSwitch data
December price index: 96 (4% below annual norm — the cheapest month)
January price index: 104 (4% above annual norm — the priciest month)
December-to-January swing: roughly 8% on the same car

How to prepare now for a December purchase

1. Shortlist your cars today

Browse used cars in Dubai and save three to five options you’d be happy with. Know your preferred make, model year, and budget. If you’re flexible on trim — say, a semi-loaded model instead of fully loaded — that’s another 4% off, based on what we’ve seen across our listings.

2. Get finance sorted in advance

Bank pre-approvals usually take a few days. Do it in November and you’re ready to move the moment a December listing catches your eye. Sellers respond faster to buyers who already have financing in place.

3. Know your negotiation range

We’ve seen cars listed in the AED 30,000–60,000 range sell for about 7% below asking. In the AED 60,000–100,000 range, it’s closer to 6%. These are starting points, not guarantees — every car is different. But knowing the range helps you make a fair offer without lowballing.

4. Don’t wait until January

This is the single most important point. If you find the right car in mid-to-late December, act on it. Once January arrives, prices jump. The window is real, and it closes.

What about city differences?

Across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, the like-for-like price differences are small — under 2% either way. City shouldn’t drive your decision. Shop where it’s convenient for you. Most of our Dubai listings carry transparent pricing, and every car is inspection-verified regardless of location.

Considering selling before you buy?

If you’re trading up, December works both ways. Yes, prices are softer. But if you sell your car through CarSwitch now — in November — you’re selling into a market before the January rush of competing sellers. The inspection-verified listing, transparent pricing, and real people handling your sale make the process smooth.

The bottom line

December is the cheapest month to buy used cars in Dubai. January is the priciest. The gap between them is roughly 8%. If you’re serious about buying in the next two months, spend November getting ready — shortlist cars, arrange finance, set your budget. Then move in December.

Is December really the cheapest month to buy used cars in Dubai?

Yes. CarSwitch listings data shows December prices sit about 4% below the annual norm — the lowest month we’ve tracked. January immediately flips to the highest, about 4% above. That’s a swing of roughly 8% in a matter of weeks.

How much money can I save buying a used car in December vs January?

It depends on the car’s price. On a car that would normally list around AED 80,000, the December-to-January difference is roughly AED 7,000. The higher the price, the bigger the gap.

Why do used car prices drop in December in the UAE?

Sellers want to close before the holidays and year-end. At the same time, new-model showroom promotions push more trade-ins onto the market. More supply plus slightly softer demand pulls prices down.

How should I prepare for a December car purchase?

Start now. Browse and shortlist cars, get your bank finance pre-approved, and set a clear budget. When the right car appears in December, you’ll be ready to move before January prices kick in.
