Don’t be surprised if a police patrol car pulls you over the next time you are driving around Abu Dhabi, UAE. You may have done nothing wrong! Curious? So are we 🙂
Launched last year by UAE’s first Minister of State for Happiness, Ohood Al Roumi, the Happiness Patrol Project is a one-of-a-kind initiative. As part of the project, police officers will reward law-abiding road users with well-deserved appreciation and gift vouchers. While free ‘happiness vouchers’ are sure to put a smile on drivers’ faces, such efforts will also promote adherence to traffic rules and regulations, making the roads safer for all. A win-win for both the government and road-users!
The Happiness Vouchers value up to AED 300 and winners will be given a choice. Gift vouchers for shopping malls, telecom service providers, prominent consumer outlets and more will be up for grabs. On the other hand, minor traffic violations will earn drivers a yellow card as a warning.
Speaking of happiness, did you know that UAE ranks as the 21st happiest country in the world? Initiatives like the Happiness Patrol will surely improve the ranking further. Certainly, for those of us tired of hearing about rising fines and fuel prices every other day, such news is like a breath of fresh air. Now let’s hope they do something about introducing this project in other parts of Emirates as well, Dubai for instance. What do you say?
