The Department of Municipalities and Transport’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) recently made an announcement that all vehicles in Abu Dhabi will now be able to accept cashless, card-based payments. The feature was in the works for a long time and has finally been rolled out by the transport sector regulator to limit the contact between passengers and drivers and restrict the spread of the pandemic. The cashless payment feature is now available on all 6,180 taxis.
How to make payments
In order to make a card-based debit or credit card payment, riders need to install the Abu Dhabi taxi application through Google store or Apple store and fill in the relevant details. The commuters can then pay for the trip once the ride ends.
The ITC also stated that this feature will benefit tourists who can pay for the trip without carrying cash. Moreover, the vehicles are being cleaned and disinfected at the beginning and end of each shift to protect riders and keep the taxis clean.
Precautions to be followed during the rides
In compliance with government regulations, all riders must wear a face mask and gloves when riding a taxi and must be seated in the back. More than two passengers will not be allowed in the taxi. In addition to this, ITC has also installed plastic sheets as a barrier between riders and drivers as an additional measure. Hand sanitizers will be available in the vehicles as well.
