It’s an exciting time to be a truck owner since the electric-truck market is finally gaining ground. Not only will the Tesla Cybertruck be available by the end of the year, but Ford has also stated that the first F-150 Lightning pickup truck will be available in early 2022.

The Ford F-150 is one of the most popular vehicles, and Tesla makes some of the world’s most popular electric vehicles. Ford appears to be giving the same iconic truck experience it has for decades, but one that is fueled by a battery rather than gas.

Design

The F-150 Lightning’s key selling point would be that it looks almost identical to its gas and hybrid siblings. There are minor variances on the front, especially since an electric car doesn’t need a grill, but it’s evident at a look that all F-150s are extremely similar.

The Tesla Cybertruck is truly revolutionary, and it is not based on any other vehicles. The Cybertruck was designed to seem like something out of a PS1 sci-fi game from the early 1990s. You can’t dispute that it’s attractive, and the odd angular design has gotten a lot of attention.

The Cybertruck includes all of the standard truck features, with a 6.5-foot truck bed. Instead of a typical tailgate, the bed has an extended telescoping ramp, which has its own set of advantages.

The Cybertruck is built to last a long time.

It’s unlike anything else on the road, the Tesla Cybertruck stands apart. The difference between the two trucks is found there. The F-150 was designed to be as utilitarian as a standard gas-powered pickup, whereas Tesla appears to be marketing the Cybertruck as a fashion trend — although a practical one that can do everything a truck can do.

Interior

The F-150 Lightning has a large storage capacity because it’s a huge truck. The front trunk is 14.1 cubic feet, and the 5.5-footbed is the same as the gasoline F-150. A fold-out workstation in the center console and totally flat front seats are also included on the inside.

The F-150 Lightning boasts many of the amenities you’d expect from a modern electric vehicle, including a 15.5-inch infotainment screen. However, unlike the Tesla Cybertruck, which is almost entirely based on touchscreens, Ford is preserving the actual buttons and knobs.

The Tesla Cybertruck is largely a regular Tesla vehicle, with a few notable exceptions. While the interiors of a Model S and Model 3 may appear to be nearly identical, there’s no disputing that the Cybertruck’s distinctive design has affected the interior.

Towing Capacity

The basic F-150 Lightning has a towing capacity of 7,700 pounds, while the extended-range model has a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. That’s quite close to Tesla’s Cybertrucks, but since there isn’t a tri-motor Lightning, comparing the existing versions to Tesla’s top-tier model isn’t really fair.

Nonetheless, the fact that Tesla is working on a more powerful model, despite the delays, may offer Elon Musk’s business advantage. The tri-motor Cybertruck is the clear winner if you want as much power as possible and don’t mind waiting.

Range and battery life

Tesla leaves Ford far behind in terms of range. The base F-150 Lightning will have a range of 230 miles, while the extended-range model will have a range of up to 300 miles. Even if the stats appear somewhat similar between Tesla trucks, this is commendable.

Even if the Tesla base truck isn’t quite as powerful as the more equipped variant, the entry-level model offers 250 miles of range for the same price. The dual-motor variant has a range of almost 300 miles, while the tri-motor type range exceeds 500 miles. On the range, there’s little to no doubt at all that the Cybertruck comes out on top every time.

Conclusion

It’s tough to determine which truck is better without driving both, especially considering how evenly the two cheapest Cybertrucks compare to the F-150 Lightning variants.

The F-150 Lighting is the way to go if you want a more classic truck feel, especially given Ford’s decades of truck-building knowledge. But if you’re looking for something unusual, the Cybertruck is the way to go. In either way, both vehicles fulfill the demands of different drivers.
