Summer is around the corner, and before the weather gets warmer, it’s a good idea to ensure that your vehicle’s AC is in top working condition. The experts at CarSwitch, an online marketplace for certified used cars for sale in Sharjah, have gathered some common problems that are associated with car ACs.

Weak Airflow

If your car’s AC isn’t blasting cold air with the usual force, it’s a good idea to get it checked. There could be several reasons for this problem. For a diagnosis, you can try using the vent selector to direct the airflow to different vents. When you turn the knob, see if the air is coming out of some vents. If that’s the case, the blend door might be stuck. Blend doors determine which vent air flows through and if they get stuck, it prevents air from flowing properly.

However, if your blend doors seem to be fine, you should check if the blower motor is functioning correctly. To gauge this, just turn on your AC and then switch to heat. If you notice that airflow is weak on both modes, chances are your cabin filter is clogged or the blower motor is dying.

Other causes of weak airflow include a build-up of mould or mildew in the evaporator core or a loosened hose.

The AC Isn’t Cooling Properly

If your AC isn’t cooling your car like it used to, there could be several reasons behind this. There is a possibility that a failed o-ring, hose, seal, or component has caused a Freon leak. Or, it could be that the expansion tube or refrigerant charging hose is clogged. Other reasons include a malfunctioning compressor, blower motor, condenser, evaporator, switch, relay, control module, fuse, or vacuum leaks.

The AC Blows Warm Air

Sometimes, what happens is that the AC blows cool air at first but then it gets warm. As with other things, there could be various reasons behind this issue. It could be that the expansion valve is clogged, hampering its job of distributing the right amount of refrigerant to the evaporator. When the refrigerant doesn’t reach the evaporator, it starts to freeze the valve if there is moisture.

Another reason could be a faulty compressor clutch, as a result of which the correct pressure cannot be maintained and hot air follows. The warm air can also be because of a blown fuse, as this cuts the power to certain components of the AC. And lastly, the warm air can be the courtesy of leaks. Leaks usually happen because of damage or moisture. When the refrigerant mixes with moisture, the corrosive acids harm seals and components, which leads to a leak.
