The iconic Supra is back again with more updates. The 2021 Supra will get a new 4 cylinder engine and even more power. Moreover, we’ll also get to see a special edition version of the Supra which we certainly hope to see as a car for sale in Dubai. CarSwitch.com did some research to give you the full scoop.
New Engine
After the return of Toyota Supra in 2020, the carmaker has again revised the formula to make the pre-loved Supra even more power-packed. It takes its new 2.0L 4 cylinder engine from the Z4 sDrive30i, which it takes inspiration from. This base model comes with an 8-speed automatic and cranks out 255 hp with 400 Nm torque. This version of the Supra will also be the 2nd quickest model as it reaches 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds.
As it comes without the adaptive suspension, power-adjustable seats, and active differential, it weighs 91kg lighter than the Supra 3.0 version. Four piston brake calipers have been replaced with single-piston rotors. A 4-speaker system has been fitted instead of a 10-speaker system to reduce its weight. Still, this Supra maintains an equal weight distribution which means that it will not only feel lighter but is also going to be nimbler.
More Power
However, that’s not all. The showstopper is still the bigger and more powerful Supra with a 3.0L turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine. Similar to its smaller version, it is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It now pushes out 382hp which is 47hp more than the previous version. Torque also increases by a minor 4Nm, now being 499 Nm. It can now go from a standstill to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds which is 0.2 seconds less than its predecessor, making it the quickest Toyota model.
The upper trim Supra gets a tweaked chassis as well. It comes with aluminium braces, revamped dampers and other suspension tweaks to improve handling and roll resistance. Moreover, it will have an updated electric power steering and adaptive suspension.
Optional features
Both trims get specific features from the The Safety and Technology package as optional. It includes safety features such as blind spot monitors, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert which will be optional for all trims. Whereas, navigation, Apple CarPlay and a 12 speaker sound system will be standard for the Supra 3.0 but optional for Supra. All trims will come with an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen.
On top of this, a new special edition for the Supra 3.0 will be available as well. However, it will only have 1,000 units. This edition will come in either Refraction Blue or Nocturnal black with stripes on its body, indicative of its special status. Riding on black wheels, it will also have carbon fibre rear lip spoiler and mirror caps. Additionally, it will come with blue stitching along with Alcantara panels.
Its price is still under wraps and we’re also not sure if the base trim will be available as a car for sale in Dubai or not. It is expected to go on sale in June, so hopefully we will have more information by then.
