Genesis, the brand of Hyundai Motor responsible for its luxurious new and used cars in Dubai, has finally jumped on the SUV bandwagon. Genesis GV80 was first shown as a concept in 2017 and now it’s been brought to life. As demand is rising for SUVs, this move can be a lucrative one for Genesis. CarSwitch.com digs into the details.
Exterior
In line with the “Athletic Elegance” design language of the brand, the GV80 has adopted the trademark crest grille, signature quad lamps on each side of the grille and the “g-matrix” pattern on the lighting and other components . Additionally, the character line extends across the SUV giving it a strong presence.
The taillamps use the same pattern as the headlights, aligning the whole look. The striking design makes it a viable competitor in the segment but there is much more to it as well.
Interior
The elegance theme extends to the interior as well with multiple trims and top-notch materials. The interior sports a clean design with a 14.5 inch split-screen infotainment display at the center of the dashboard. The buttons have been kept to a minimum with the display handling most of the operations. It gets a curved center console with a wooden trim with the HVAC systems located on top on the infotainment and shifter knob.
This well-executed design also packs different convenience systems for the front passenger and driver. It includes a Genesis Integrated Controller as well as a navigation system incorporating augmented reality. Moreover, it also features the latest Road Active Noise Cancellation Technology (RANC) by Hyundai.
It will be available as a 5-seater and a 7-seater like its other competitors. However, it goes a notch higher with its power-adjustable, heated and ventilated second row seat.
Performance
So far, this Genesis has only been revealed in South Korea, where the brand comes from. The engine being offered is a 3.0L 6 cylinder powerhouse with 278 hp. For the rest of the markets, it is suspected that two turbo engines, 4 cylinder and V6 will be available. They will be paired with an all-wheel-drive or a rear-wheel-drive and the vehicles paired with the former will also get an electronic Limited Slip Differential at the rear axle.
Safety
GV80 receives a number of safety features in order to safeguard the passengers in accidents as well as to avoid accidents as a whole. The most notable feature is an AI based navigation system known as Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning (SCC-ML). It is used alongside the Highway Driving Assistant feature which includes Lane change assist, Lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control to make it a great driver’s car.
