The fourth generation Toyota Yaris has been revealed and it looks like a potential rival for all budget-friendly new and used cars in Abu Dhabi. The most exciting part is that it will come with a hybrid powertrain as well. It’s expected to reach its UK customers by September of next year. CarSwitch.com has compiled all the details!
Built on Toyota’s new global architecture (TNGA) platform dubbed as ‘GA-B’ just like the latest 2020 Toyota Corolla, this new Supermini will have better body rigidity along with ample amount of tech. In addition to being lighter, it is also 40mm shorter in height and loses 5mm in length compared to the current model, making it the only car in the segment that is lower than 4 meters in length.
Subtle exterior changes apart from the size include a larger grille, sharp looks and two-toned color scheme for the exterior. It also has an increased wheelbase which is expected to give more passenger space.
The latest Yaris comes with a 3-cylinder engine. The base engine will offer a 1.0L 3-cylinder with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Other engine option will be the 1.5L 3-cylinder with a 6-speed manual or CVT transmission, The hybrid version will offer a 1.5L engine paired with an electric motor and a lithium ion battery. It is expected to cut CO2 emissions by 20% with a 50% increase in output. The lithium ion battery will make it lighter, powerful and even more fuel efficient. However, no performance figures have been uncovered as yet.
Inside the new Yaris, there is a standard 8inch infotainment screen with an optional 10inch screen expected. Moreover, it gets a minimalist dashboard and an instrument panel. Even though the car specs are not confirmed, it is expected to come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Another highlight of this new Yaris is that it will have Toyota Safety Sense. It comes with active safety technologies such as lane keeping assist, auto high means as well as adaptive cruise control. In addition, it will also have a central airbag for the front seats.
The price for this new Yaris will remain under wraps until its launch but we do have high hopes that it will still be one of the best cars under on a budget.
