Cars of the future may not have the old speakers protruding out of the car’s interior anymore. Instead, new technology will generate sound using the interior of your car. It’s exciting news but this technology is still under development, so if you’re selling your car in Dubai, UAE, you’ll just have to pick another car while you wait for this one to hit the markets.
German firm Continental came up with the idea. In conventional speakers, pressure waves of varying amplitude and frequency are created by the vibration of cones in a speaker. This new design suggested by the company eliminated the cone from the speaker and introduces a transducer instead that would vibrate the interior panels of the car. It is yet another feature to make your car lighter, more luxurious and compact.
Many may assume that this would compromise the quality of sound, but the company says that it will ensure that the sound is even crisper than traditional type speakers can offer. Continental, has made no announcements of releasing this technology in any car as it is still in its research stage. However, it has installed the system in a test car where they installed small actuators that generate crisp sound through the vibration of surrounding surfaces like the door panels and roof lining. Although this technology will considerably reduce the weight of the car, its release is still uncertain.
