Every year the onset of summer brings a rush of UAE residents looking to get their car windows tinted. This summer the Dubai police has a special announcement that will bring a sigh of relief from many. Wondering what change that is? CarSwitch brings you the answer.
Dubai Police recently announced that car owners will be allowed 50% tint on their car windows instead of the previous 30%. That means that the long-standing rule about tinting no more than 30% and the AED 1500 fine that went along with exceeding the limit is no longer valid.
Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operational Affairs at Dubai Police and Director of the Federal Traffic Council clarified that the darker window tint is now legally allowed for all vehicles, except taxis and trucks. New federal traffic laws were introduced at the beginning of July and under these new laws tinting is allowed for all windows except the windscreen. Furthermore, under Article 9 of the new traffic laws, the rule is applicable not only for individual car owners but also for rental and company cars.
It’s certainly a welcome news, and not just for those who like a darker tint on their car windows. Boosted tinting levels also enable better protection against the sun and the summer heat. Such windows reduce the heat levels inside the car thus improving the efficiency of air conditioning in the cabin. With the mercury levels soaring across the UAE, these rule changes couldn’t have come at a better time!
