It was recently revealed that the Chevrolet Corvette C8 convertible will now come with a folding hardtop, which is likely to make it one of the hottest cars for sale in Sharjah. It’s also the first retracting hard-top in the history of Chevrolet which is an achievement unlocked for the company. CarSwitch.com gives you the complete details.
After the recent debut of the mid-engine Chevy Corvette C8, here is another surprising reveal. The C8 has already made headlines as being the first mid-engined Corvette and the first one to use a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Now, its latest iteration is also the first power-folding drop-top in the history of Chevrolet. Not just that, it comes with a retractable rear window as well which can be opened regardless of whether the roof is up or down.
The new roof operates by six electric motors and can be retracted at a speed of up to 48 kph, taking 16 seconds to fold. Chevrolet claims that this hard-top offers better aerodynamics as compared to a soft-top. Additionally, what’s even more impressive is that the hard-top only adds 36 kg of weight to the car which is much less than expected.
It comes with some necessary design changes. Instead of a flat rear deck lid, there is a vertical rear window beside the cabin which is supported by two buttresses on each side to form the roofline. The drop-top fold beautifully under the tonneau cover (which replaces the glass engine cover) behind the buttresses and the top allows the car to reduce noise. Even with all of these features, the cargo space remains the same as the coupe version of Chevy C8.
The engine remains the same as the coupe version as it comes with a 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 engine. The chassis has been slightly revamped to adjust to the new configurations. Moreover, new tuning and dampers help this latest version of C8 to match the impeccable performance of its coupe counterpart.
It is definitely one of the biggest updates of the year. This 2020 Chevy Corvette C8 costs around $68000 (AED 249,767) which is AED 30,000 more than its coupe variant. The production for this Corvette is expected to begin by the end of the first quarter of 2020. If this is beyond your budget, check out some of the other cars for sale in Sharjah on CarSwitch.com!
