Overview:

Maserati has teased us with the Alfieri sports car for years, but it now appears like the wait will be over when the car is eventually released in 2021. But there’s a catch: this car will be the replacement for the brand’s current-production Gran-Turismo sports car, and it will keep the Gran-Turismo moniker. About a year after the impending MC20 supercar, the new 2022 Gran-Turismo will join the roster. Despite the fact that some of the details shared with us throughout the years have changed, we expect the Alfieri-turned-Gran-Turismo to maintain at least some of the Alfieri concept car’s gorgeous bodywork, which will undoubtedly make it a knockout. Maserati says an electrified powertrain will be available, as well as a convertible version named GranCabrio. The Gran-Turismo will be revamped and released in 2022.

What’s New for 2022?

When the Gran-Turismo goes on sale in 2022, it will be completely redesigned. Electric and hybrid models are planned to follow later, with a gasoline-powered model being the first to join the market.

Pricing and Which One to Buy:

We may expect a classy GranLusso, a more aggressively equipped GranSport, and both GTS and Trofeo performance models, each with a somewhat higher price tag, if the new Gran-Turismo maintains Maserati’s present pricing structure. Closer to the car’s on-sale date, we’ll have more details on pricing, standard features, and option packages.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance:

The Gran-Turismo will be offered as an electric vehicle, according to Maserati’s newest statement. Powertrain specs are murky and obscured by years of alterations to the original idea. Maserati has stated that it will also be available with a gasoline engine, and we believe that a hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle is in the works. It’s still unclear whether a hybrid powertrain will be an option or the Gran-Turismo’s standard mode of propulsion. If a gasoline-only model is planned, a Ferrari-sourced V-6 or V-8 engine could be used, while the hybrid or plug-in hybrid could employ a turbo four-cylinder. In the end, we simply don’t know.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG:

It’s hard to predict fuel economy or electric driving range without knowing which engine or electric powertrain will power the Gran-Turismo. More details will be published as the car approaches its on-sale date, and we’ll update this post as more information becomes available. We’ll put a production model through our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test and share our findings once we have one in for testing. Visit the EPA’s website for more information on the Gran-Turismo’s fuel efficiency.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo:

The Gran-Turismo will most certainly remain a two-door, four-seater with plenty of comforts inside, including the brand’s signature leather-and-silk upholstery by Ermenegildo Zegna of Italy. We anticipate passenger capacity to be comparable to that of rivals such as the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT, as well as cargo space. Expect the trunk capacity of the GranCabrio to be reduced when it launches to make place for stowing a folding fabric roof.

Infotainment and Connectivity:

Touch Control Plus, Maserati’s latest infotainment system, is a lightly re-skinned version of Chrysler’s Uconnect system. In the Levante SUV, we appreciated the system for being intuitive, swift, and stylish. It’s likely to debut inside the Gran-Turismo as well, with the same touchscreen interface and options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features:

It’s probable that the new sports vehicle may arrive with more advanced driver-assistance technology than the existing Maserati lineup. Until the Gran-Turismo is closer to production, we won’t know much more. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for further information on the Gran-Turismo’s crash-test results. The following are expected to be important safety features:

  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian recognition is standard.
  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist are also available.
  • Adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode is available.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage:

Maserati’s basic warranty is nothing spectacular, with four years or 50,000 miles of coverage. To boost their value in this category, rival sports cars like the Porsche 911 and the BMW i8 both provide complimentary planned maintenance contracts.

  • A four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty is included.
  • A four-year or 50,000-mile powertrain warranty is included.
  • There is no free planned maintenance.
