Introduction to the news
The ID.6 by Volkswagen was unveiled at the Shanghai auto show and it is the first ID EV model which the automaker designed for a particular audience. For this purpose, the vehicle has a panoramic glass roof and a long wheelbase to make it look big.
This is the latest member of the Volkswagen electric ID lineup and is based on the I.D. Roomzz concept. This vehicle is the biggest offering in China. Moreover, it displays specific connectivity features primarily for the China market such as the update on local air quality. If you want to

Details of the lineup
It is true that the manufacturer is thinking greatly about electric vehicles. It’s latest EV lineup previously included the ID.3 hatchback which is available in Europe and ID.4 (it will receive a high performance GTX version) which is available in the US. While the ID. Buzz van is about to go on sale in the US in 2023, ID.6 is included in the family too now.
The ID.6 is a 3-row electric crossover SUV and will offer two versions, namely ID.6 X and ID.6 Crozz. Moreover, 4 configurations will be available in China and the biggest of them will accommodate 7 passengers. A total of 2 battery capacities will be offered, 58 kWh and 77 kWh.
In China’s NEDC testing cycle, these latest vehicles had a claimed driving range of 270 to 365 miles. The ID.6 is speculated to cover the 62 mph distance in only 6.6 seconds and have a top speed of 99 mph with 2 electric motors in the 4Motion guise.
Features and dimensions
Similar to the other ID vehicles, the ID.6 drives on the Volkswagen MEB platform which is the only EV solution which the automaker is using to reshape itself into an electric mobility company. The only different thing is that the ID.6 is the first ever ID car which was constructed especially for a specific audience.
According to Volkswagen, the ID.6 prioritized the “needs and wishes of Chinese customers” as much as it can about the practicality, dimensions and user experience. This vehicle will be the biggest member of the ID family having a total length of 192 inches which is 11.8 inches more as compared to the ID.4.
Comfort is guaranteed by the panoramic glass roof and an optional sunroof. When it is side by side compared with the US market Atlas, it has an identical wheelbase size. However, the Atlas is 6 inches longer and bigger and 4 inches taller than the ID.6.
Including the ID.6, the automaker will reveal 8 ID models in China at the end of 2023. According to the vice president of sales, marketing and after sales for Volkswagen China Passenger Cars, Olaf Gutowksi, the company requires this type of variety to be at equal level with the “fierce” rivalry coming from local brands such as Xpeng and Nio in the EV industry.
Statements
The Chinese electric vehicles by Volkswagen also should have extra intelligent technology to gain more attention, Gutowksi explained. The ID.6 will be equipped with the minimal amount of switches and physical buttons on the dashboard.
The drivers will be able to communicate with the vehicle using a “Hello ID” voice command and 12 inches touchscreen. “One difference in our ID. models in China is that they will have a high level of computing power and a robust software platform in order to provide customers with the necessary digital and connectivity services,” Gutowksi stated in his statement. “For instance, Chinese ID.6 customers can check for updates on air quality or traffic violation tickets.”
Therefore, the ID.6 will first go on sale in China, but according to a credible automotive news platform, a version of the electric vehicle will arrive in the US and it is a “conceivable” chance. The audience expects the US to receive a 3 rows Electric vehicle SUV in the Atlas size range from Volkswagen. It is probable for it to be manufactured here as well.
