This year, the automotive industry has lost many gems and most of them are trunks which are an endangered car segment. Let’s see what the year will look like without them. To sell any car in UAE, you can trust CarSwitch.
Alfa Romeo 4C
Probably the most uncompromised and anticipated sports car available, it is unbelievable that the Alfa Romeo 4C did not sell out much. Matter of fact, the sales were insignificant. There were only 144 customers for the 4C Spider and remaining 4C Coupes in 2019. About the sale in 2020, it amounts to only 71. The passing of the 4C Spider is sad because there might not be another vehicle like that again.
BMW i8
In June, the automaker manufactured the final i8 supercar with a big battery and small engine. It was found as a roadster or a coupe. 369 hp was produced by the electric motors, Lilliputian 1.5 liter, 3 cylinder internal combustion engine and a battery pack.
This power is sufficient for the exotic and modernistic car. BMW will make another vehicle like this soon even if it’s given a different name.
Cadillac CT6
The names of DeVille, Fleetwood, and Seville still live in the American automotive industry because these brands reflected credibility and substance. A Cadillac sedan usually translates to success but the CT6 lived a different story.
This is the final and one of the best big Cadillac sedans which did not succeed. Even though it was powered by a 4.2 liter twin turbocharged DOHC, 32 valve, Blackwing V8 engine which delivered 550 hp in the high performance version. The sale of Cadillac CT6 reached a maximum in 2017 with 10,542 units. However, only 7,951 units arrived in the dealerships in 2019.
Chevrolet Sonic
In 2011, the automaker was striving to successfully introduce the Sonic subcompact. Therefore, in the parking lot of California Magic Mountain amusement park, it had Rob Dyrdek launch the Sonic in the air.
It did a complete barrel roll, landed on another ramp and went away. This was the 2012 model but in many countries, this car was the second generation of Aveo. It was assembled in the same plant as the Electric Bolt.
Dodge Grand Caravan
The 5th generation of the Dodge Grand Caravan was launched for the 2008 model year. Fueled by the Chrysler 3.6 liter Pentastar V6, it was cheap and very productive to buy. Therefore, the company kept the car around.
But now, this car is being replaced by the Chrysler Pacifica which was introduced in 2017. The less popular version of that avant-garde minivan was introduced last year aka Chrysler Voyager. This minivan is no more.
Dodge Journey
This was the last car sold by Fiat Chrysler having a 4 speed automatic transmission. No one thinks about this vehicle and it is finally going away.
The Dodge Journey is a tall wagon version of the Dodge Avenger sedan. There was no all wheel drive or V6 option in the Journey. All the models of 2020 come with a 2.4 liter, 173 hp and 4 cylinder engine and a front wheel drive.
The only transmission available is the last of Chrysler’s badly reputed 4 speed Ultradrive automatics which was offered for the 1989 model year for sedans and minivans. This vehicle will definitely not be mourned.
Fiat 124 Spider
This is another convertible lost by the American market this year. It was constructed in Japan along with the Mazda MX-5 Miata. It came with a single overhead cam engine giving 160 hp. The 124 Spider gave a better experience than the Miata due to the damping and soft springs.
Ford Fusion
Ford will no longer make a sedan in the US. This automaker is the producer of Crown Victoria, Fairmont, Focus and Taurus. The Fusion was manufactured in the Hermosillo Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico.
Even though the sales decreased over the years, Fusion still managed to gain 166,000 units in the previous year in the US. It also offered a Fusion Sport 325 hp in 2017 and 2018. Unluckily for the automaker, some of its last buyers have not sent for Edge or Escape. The customers have glanced at the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla for sedan alternatives and Chevrolet Equinox as a crossover alternative.
