Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is installing interactive parking meters with touchscreens to eliminate the need for paper parking tickets. From the first quarter of this year until 2022, updated parking meters are being installed in phases. Motors don’t need to display tickets in areas where the parking meters have been updated. According to the RTA, this project will be an innovative solution to pay parking fees without the requirement of a paper ticket. The RTA further added that, using the interactive touchscreens, motorists can enter their vehicle details and their eParking tickets will be issued.
Besides eliminating the need to display paper tickets on vehicles, it also puts an end to the fines that were incurred due to improper display of tickets.
“No paper parking tickets on the vehicle’s windshield after today. The parking machines are updated to include an interactive touch screen, allowing the customer to enter the vehicle’s information and obtain an e-ticket, saving time and effort,” the RTA said.
The RTA also announced that in those places where the new parking meters have not been installed, motorists would be required to show their paper tickets on their cars. In such areas, motorists can display their paper tickets on their windshields to avoid offences. However, parking fees can also be paid through other means like text messages or smart apps so that you don’t have to display tickets.
