A car for sale with an automatic transmission has been the current standard for several generations now as these units provide a combination of ease and comfort. After all, shifting from gear to gear can often prove to be cumbersome, making vehicles with an automatic transmission the preferred option for many buyers. However, Aston Martin might be defying industry trends with its brand new Vanquish model, as it may be offered in the manual transmission variant. As strange as it may sound for sports car enthusiasts, the British car manufacturer may end up going ahead with the plan.
Brand new Vanquish model might not appear before 2022
When asked about the future Vanquish model featuring a manual transmission, Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer didn’t outright deny this claim but told Car Sales that he wants the company to be the last in the world to offer a sports car with such a transmission. It will be a strange feeling in your gut when a new Vanquish comes out of the production facility with a previous-generation clutch system. After all, high-performance vehicles like the one Aston Martin churns out have attempted to move away from this form of transmission as the automatic one improves acceleration considerably, reducing the time it takes to complete a lap.
If Aston Martin goes through with the launch of the Vanquish featuring a manual transmission, it will become the first with a mid-tier supercar engine to offer such a system that competes against the likes of Lamborghini, Ferrari, and McLaren. The previous-generation Vanquish offered a 6-speed automatic transmission, with Aston Martin later gravitating to an 8-speed transmission.
If some potential buyers with extremely deep pockets will be disappointed to hear the news of a future Vanquish sporting a manual transmission, the manufacturer has ensured that the sports car will not be compromising on performance. The new model is expected to be faster and offer driver-focused features. Additionally, offering a stick-shift for customers will mean that the Vanquish will be a unique pick against models such as McLaren 720S and Ferrari F8 Tributo, which to remind you, are only offered in a dual-clutch.
Coming to the engine and other specifications, the new car is expected to feature an aluminium build, making it lightweight while giving it a certain amount of durability. A twin-turbocharged V6 engine is also expected, but with an all-new electric motor. The same engine will reportedly be used in Aston Martin’s upcoming Valhalla, suggesting that an 800 horsepower could be a possibility for the Vanquish.
Pricing details haven’t been disclosed, but expect at least a $450,000 stamp for the base version. A limited-edition and possibly more expensive carbon fiber model of the Vanquish might be sold shortly after the official launch, but such details were not provided by the company or its CEO, so we’ll have to wait for this information in the near future.Whether you want to buy a used car for sale or to sell the one you currently own, CarSwitch.com can help.
