While some people call this sedan the QX50 with a sloped roof, Infiniti is naming it the 2022 QX55. It’s fastback design makes it a stylish addition in the Infiniti lineup.
This exterior design is influenced by the automaker’s impactful midsize FX model which was revealed as the 2003 model but it joins the platform with the compact QX50 SUV. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 is fueled by the same variable compression turbocharged 2 liter 4 cylinder seen in the QX50 but provides an all wheel drive as standard. The QX55 is set apart from the rest of the square back counterpart with a bold front fascia and athletic 20 inches wheels.

Pricing and trim levels
The QX55 is the latest nameplate for Infiniti. It’s suspension, cabin and powertrain are the same as the QX50 SUV. The only differences are that the QX55’s price is higher and it has a bolder exterior. It’s grille design is made of Ornate Origami fold pattern and the tail lights include intricate digital piano. Styled to steal the spotlight, it’s crossover coupe silhouette pays homage to the legendary Infiniti FX. Due to the sloping roofline, it is a rival of Mercedes Benz GLC coupe and BMW X4.
It is offered in 3 trims which are base Luxe, midrange Essential and loaded Sensory. Among all these trims, the Essential gives the most value due to luxurious features and famous tech at an affordable cost.
It’s standard features include a 360 degree exterior camera system, a 16 speaker Bose stereo system, navigation inside the dashboard, cooled and heated front seats and much more. The ProAssist package is highly preferable too which consists of LED headlights, adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring.
Engine and Performance
The same engine as the QX50- a turbocharged 2 liter 4 cylinder variable compression known as VC Turbo- powers the QX55 as well. It’s power output is 268 hp and is paired with CVT plus the standard all wheel drive.
You can enjoy 2 driving modes with just one engine which are exhilarating performance and economic efficiency. These modes are available with the help of its revolutionary design. This is called the driver-centric design which not only makes you admire the exterior, but enjoy it as well.
The acceleration is brisk and it tops the 60 mph in only 6.4 seconds. Handling is almost athletic and the ride is very comfortable. Combined with the quiet interior and strong turbo power, it is a great SUV to drive.
Cabin and comfort
The stylish and decently equipped cabin is a reminder of the QX50. But instead of using the quilted leather upholstery, the cabin designers have chosen a simple look. Interior is anything but ordinary, with Monaco red and a contrasting graphite color combination.
The base models have a standard faux leather upholstery whereas semi aniline leather and authentic leather will be available as options. The open pore black wood trim is something entirely new in the sporty SUV cabins which is way better than the carbon fiber trim.
Headroom is not that sufficient due to the sloping roofline and even the boot area is less accommodating than the QX50 which had space for 9 carry-on suitcases.
The automaker has stuck to a dual screen infotainment system, the upper screen displays navigation and the lower offers media, radio and other settings. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are provided as standard.
For the first time in Infiniti, a wireless connection, Bose performance series stereo system and 4G LTE WiFi hotspot are offered as well. You can either choose utter silence or premium sound because the cabin noise cancelling technology removes all unnecessary sounds.
Safety and driver assistance
The automaker has added a variety of driver assistance functions as standard so that you can drive safely and enjoy every ride. As a choice, the Infiniti’s ProPilot Assist semi autonomous driving mode is available. The standard safety features are listed below.
