About Lexus GX460

The GX460 is the badge on the body-on-frame Lexus: a 4.6-litre V8, a ladder chassis shared with Toyota's Land Cruiser Prado, 7 seats and low-range gearing. It is the least fashionable car Lexus sells here and, on the retention numbers below, one of the most sensible.

How much does the Lexus GX460 cost in the UAE?

Two trims and no engine choice. AED 260,000 for the Premier 4.6L, AED 300,000 for the Platinum 4.6L, with the V8, the four-wheel-drive hardware and all seven seats standard on both. Everything the higher trim adds is inside the cabin, which is unusual in this class and makes the entry car the more interesting buy.

Which Lexus GX460 trim is the one to buy?

Premier, on value. The parts that justify a GX460 — the frame, the V8, the transfer case and the ground clearance — do not change, so Platinum is buying leather, audio, adaptive damping and a fuller driver-assistance suite. Worth having on a family car, wasted on a weekend tool.

Lexus GX460 or Lexus RX350?

Different cars at similar money. The GX460 is the one to have if sand, towing or a heavy load is part of the job: ladder frame, low range and 220 mm of clearance. The RX350 is quieter, far more economical and much better on a motorway, with no off-road pretension at all. The wider RX range adds hybrids the GX cannot match on fuel.

What does a Lexus GX460 cost to run in the UAE?

Fuel, and then very little else. A claimed 8 Km/L is what a naturally aspirated V8 in a heavy body-on-frame car returns, and it is the only running cost you will really feel. The 1UR-FE engine and the Prado-derived chassis are exceptionally well proven in Gulf conditions, parts are everywhere, and Al-Futtaim Lexus covers aftersales in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Does the Lexus GX460 hold its value, and what should you watch for as it ages?

Well above average — about 56% of its value after five years, against roughly 52% for UAE SUVs of its size and the same figure across Lexus locally, with about 71% still there at three years. The GX460s CarSwitch inspects run to a median of around 95,000 km; body-on-frame cars used in sand collect underbody corrosion and suspension wear, which is a fact of the segment rather than a criticism of this model. That is what the inspection report on the individual car is for.

Is a used Lexus GX460 the better buy?

Strongly, on these numbers. Used examples generally run around AED 135,000 to AED 195,000, roughly 48% below the new entry price and a saving of about AED 125,000 — one of the widest new-to-used gaps in the range. An early-2020s example gives you the same frame and V8, and the parts that wear are cheap and visible.

Start with the used GX460 listings and read the inspection report before you decide between new and used.
