In recent years, there has been a drastic shift to automatic transmission. These stick-shift fans will give you a lot of reasons for this bias but not all of them are true. Myth 1: Automatic transmission have expensive repairs.<\/b><\/p>\n

This statement isn\u2019t completely false. Automatic transmissions do have a high cost of replacement. Though, automatic transmissions rarely need to replacement. On the other hand, stick shifts will need replacement at least one or twice in the vehicle lifecycle. Hence, it will incur higher cost in the long run.<\/span><\/p>\n

Myth 2: Automatic cars aren\u2019t fuel efficient<\/b><\/p>\n

This might be true in the past but times have changed. Automakers are working hard to improve the fuel efficiency more and more due to which the gap is quickly diminishing. Moreover, technologies such as <\/span>Dynamic Skip Fire<\/span><\/a> are making engines even more fuel efficient than before.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let’s take the example of 2018 Ford Fiesta. The 6-speed manual Fiesta offers 27 mpg city and 35 mpg highway with a cost of $1,250 after its 15,000 miles driven. On the contrary, 2018 Ford Fiesta, 5-speed manual gives 27 mpg city, 37 mpg highway and costs $1,200 after driven 15,000 miles. Hence, the mileage by automatic beats the manual mileage in this case and there are many others too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Myth 3: All sports car need to be stick shift<\/b><\/p>\n

The debate between manual vs. automatic transmission is never-ending. Previously, all racers gave preference to stick shifts but carmakers are working hard to change this. Now, even the best of the sports car are coming with clutchless paddle shifters to boost performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

A prime example would be the<\/span> Porsche 911 GT3<\/span><\/a> which comes in both manual and automatic. The manual GT3 goes from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds whereas the automatic one goes from 0- 60 in 3.2 seconds. <\/span><\/p>\n

Myth 4: New drivers prefer learning stick shift<\/b><\/p>\n

This was true once upon a time due to low supply of automatics. Nowadays, there are more automatic cars than manual. And even though, it might be beneficial to learn to drive manual cars, it might not seem worthy to many. One of the many reasons being that it is easier to drive an automatic car which may make young drivers prefer them. <\/span><\/p>\n

Myth 5: Automatics can\u2019t perform heavy duty work<\/b><\/p>\n

It is a common belief that stick shift is better to get heavy duty work done. Although, that\u2019s not the case. There is a high chance that the clutches of manual vehicle may wear out due to overload. In contrast, the automatic transmission has no clutch at all. Above all, most automatic heavy-duty vehicles have a good towing capacity or a towing package which can get the work done. <\/span><\/p>\n
