The Bavarian car makers are<\/span> selling car<\/span><\/a> by taking inspiration from the actual galaxy! The one-off M850i Night Sky is BMW\u2019s newest adaptation featuring actual meteoric elements. Believe it or not, but the one off was fashioned to pay tribute to the meteorite shower happening on the 3rd and 4th of January this year!<\/span><\/p>\n

A car to commemorate meteor shower?<\/b><\/h3>\n

\nThe manufacturers revealed that they were <\/span>selling car<\/span><\/a> when the earth was hit with it\u2019s first meteoric shower in the beginning of January this week. The designers added the \u201cextra-terrestrial\u201d elements in the console\u2019s trim palate, the ignition button, the car\u2019s gear selector and the touch controller for the idrive system.<\/span><\/p>\n

What does that mean for the car?<\/b><\/h3>\n

\nWe honestly believe that it is a refreshing change from the usual materials used for the panel. Adding further to the cosmic vibe are the enlightened starry constellation patterns in the middle of the console. <\/span><\/p>\n

On the outside, the car has used the pattern called the <\/span>Widmanst\u00e4tten surface pattern that portrays the ice crystals that are naturally seen on the surface of meteorites when iron and acidic substances combine. Fascinatingly, the German designers have mimicked the patterns on the brake callipers, the door mirrors, the front splitter and the air-breathers.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is 3-D printing as well<\/b><\/h3>\n

The manufacturers have also installed the 850i Night Sky with 3-D printed units that are 30% lighter than its standard counterparts. The company claims that the decrease in mass helps produce better aerodynamics and comfort in the model.<\/span><\/p>\n

The paint job for the Night Sky includes 5 coats and is quite a laborious process. A non-metallic black coat is applied first, and then the San Marino blue metallic coat. Previous to this, three coats are applied to complete the final hue with remarkable depth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Engine and performance<\/b><\/h3>\n

The Night Sky comes with an all-wheel drive system with an automatic 8-speed gearbox as the standard. The engine is a 4.4 litre-twin turbo V8 with a horsepower of 523. It has a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 155 mph.<\/span><\/p>\n
