5 – Pontiac<\/b><\/p>\n

A car brand sorely missed by many, Pontiac ended production in 2010 with a G6. Established as a brand in 1926, Pontiac was a division of General Motors that suffered the worst due to its bankruptcy filing. This storied automotive brand gave gearheads some notable muscle cars like the GTO and Trans-Am. And how can we ever forget their roaring GTO and the Pontiac Solstice! It was indeed one of the worst moments in the company\u2019s history when the brand had to be let go. 4 – Oldsmobile<\/b><\/p>\n

America\u2019s oldest carmaker, Oldsmobile was established in 1897, and it inspired fierce loyalty among consumers. This family business takes the credit for building some of the first gasoline powered engines in the country. In 1908, General Motors purchased the brand and it enjoyed immense commercial success in the 70\u2019s with cars like the Cutlass. Sales started tapering off in the 90\u2019s as Oldsmobile found it difficult to keep up with the technological advancements of its competitors. GM closed down the brand in 2004.<\/span><\/p>\n

3 – Saab<\/b><\/p>\n

The year 2011 was the end of the line for the quirky, Swedish automaker, Saab. GM owned the company from 2000 till 2010 when it sold the brand to Spyker Cars. Short of money and parts, this Dutch boutique automaker couldn\u2019t save the struggling brand. <\/span>Chinese investors also tried and failed to revive it<\/span><\/a>. Their assets and leftovers were purchased by a Swedish electric carmaker in 2012 marking an end to the Saab story.<\/span><\/p>\n

2 – Plymouth<\/b><\/p>\n

Introduced in 1928, Plymouth enjoyed its greatest commercial success in the 1940\u2019s and 1950\u2019s. A low-priced alternative to Ford and Chevrolet, Plymouth stagnated in subsequent years largely due to the financial difficulties of its parent company, Chrysler. The Barracuda, Roadrunner, and Prowler sports car are some of its most memorable vehicles. The last Plymouth rolled off the assembly line in 2001. <\/span><\/p>\n

1 – Hummer<\/b><\/p>\n

Another brand that didn\u2019t make it past GM\u2019s bankruptcy filing phase was the Hummer. It was first marketed in 1992 as a civilian version of military\u2019s Humvee. GM acquired it 1998 and launched three consumer-grade versions. Out of these, the H2 and H3 appeared on GM\u2019s truck platform but their gaudy design and limited utility ultimately sealed their unlucky fate. The last Hummer was built in 2010. <\/span><\/p>\n
